Every Sunday at Bethany has a chosen theme. The music, the sermon, the prayers, all fit together to lift up a message we feel the community needs today. If you want to know what is coming up at Bethany this Sunday click here.

Our staff

Bethany has a committed, hard working and fun staff team. Each member of the team complements one another and together they seek to serve you as they serve God with their own unique spiritual gifts.

Latest sermon

Every Sunday Kevin preaches a sermon based on a Bible story and the experience of the Spirit in our community. Kevin visits regularly, is involved in the community, and talks to everyone he meets. Here are the texts of these sermons.

News and Events

Calendar of Events– Our Calendar is up to date! Click here to view what's going on at Bethany.

Sunday Suppers - Once again, Bethany will be providing the meal for Sunday Suppers.  Our date is Sunday, November 26, 2017.  Our menu is our standard one of ham, scalloped potatoes, mixed vegetables with fruit for the diners to take with them. Your Local Outreach Committee needs your help with baking the hams, preparing the potatoes, serving the meal and providing fruit.  If you can bake a ham, it will be delivered to you several days before the 26th.  Just bake it and drop it off at Bethany's kitchen the morning of November 26.  Preparing the potatoes means working in Bethany's kitchen from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon (ending time is approximate) on the 26th.  Serving involves meeting at Bethany for 4:00 p.m., going to St Andrew's and helping set up, serve the meal and clean up.  That usually ends 6:00 to 6:15 p.m. If you can provide fruit, please ensure that it can be eaten "out of hand" (i.e. bananas, apples, oranges, etc..).  If you can help in any way, or just want more information, please call Carol Knapp by contacting us here.

Local Outreach: Christmas Angel Giving Tree - this will be in our Sanctuary November 19 and 26 for those who would like to donate a Christmas gift to a child in need. How it works: the tags decorating the tree will have the age and gender of a child whom the Salvation Army has indicated will need help this Christmas. Please help yourself to one (or more if you wish) of these tags and return the gift(s) to the Church by Sunday December 3, with the tag securely attached (so we can keep track).  This year, the Salvation Army is asking for: toys, books, games, movies that are age appropriate. Please limit clothing items to mitts, hats, scarves and socks. All gifts must be NEW, UNUSED and UNOPENED. Toy weapons of any sort will not be accepted, and please ensure movies, games, and books are free from violence, obscenities and abuse.  Please do not gift wrap the presents, just put in a regular bag or gift bag with the tags securely attached. We thank you in advance for your donations.

Local Outreach: Donations of Clothing - there is a box placed in the Narthex for donations of NEW items of warm clothing, such as socks, hats, mittens and gloves, for all age groups. In addition, NEW items of underwear are also urgently needed for both children and adults. Articles collected before Christmas will be delivered to agencies in time for their Christmas programs. We emphasize that all donated items must be NEW. We appreciate your support of this vital outreach project.

Local Outreach: Brunswick Street Mission - Brunswick Street Mission is in need of the following NEW toiletry items: soap, shampoo/conditioner, deodorant, razors, toothbrushes, combs and feminine hygiene products. A heartfelt THANK YOU from the Local Outreach Committee and the folks at the Mission!

Fall Faith Study – Beginning October 17, this weekly faith study group will run Tuesday nights from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. until/including November 21. All are welcome. Click here for more information and check our calendar to view the dates and times.

Walk and Talk - An indoor walking program from November to April on Wednesday mornings 10:00 to 11:30 a.m.  Whether you are a fast or slow walker and/or talker we welcome you to join us as we walk the meandering hallways and rooms of this building to stay healthy and fit during the winter months. Coffee, Tea, healthy smoothies, crossword puzzles and conversation follow the walk. The first Wednesday of each month Rev. Kevin will join us with a thought provoking question to engage us in conversation. Exercise, eating well and community engagement are essential to living a healthy lifestyle so bring a friend or family member and walk and talk with u! A small weekly donation is accepted to cover the cost of refreshments.

Transfer Opportunities to Bethany - For adults at Bethany there is the opportunity to transfer your membership from another United Church or similar Christian denomination. The process is very straightforward. If you would like to do this please contact Kevin Little, our Lead Minister. Further, if you are not a member of any church but would like to join Bethany as a member Kevin will find a process for you to learn more about the United Church in general and Bethany in particular.  You do not have to be a member to attend services at Bethany or join in our many activities.

MacKinnon Chapel - The beautiful and spiritually rich MacKinnon Chapel is available on a "drop-in" basis for prayer, reflection, reading or silence each weekday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Accessible through our Joseph Howe Drive entrance.
