Weekly Announcements

Enjoy your summer! Sunday School resumes Sunday, September 16, 2018.

Summer Office Hours: summer Office hours are now in effect. If you want to connect with staff, the Office will be open Monday to Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and will be closed on Fridays. Things return to “normal” after Labour Day.

Update from the Executive Board  At its regular meeting held the evening of Monday, June 11th 2018, the Executive Board confirmed the establishment of a fundraising committee overlapping with, but independent of, the Stewardship Committee to raise funds to support the gradual implementation of the Option 1 (Status Quo) project for Bethany’s facility as instructed by the congregation at the special congregational meeting held on May 6th 2018. It was also confirmed that the Board of Managers would oversee and manage implementation of this project beginning with the most urgent items consistent with the availability of funds allowing us to proceed. I will keep you appraised of ongoing developments as necessary and appropriate. I strongly encourage you to support as much as possible our fundraising efforts in support of the Option 1 project. Thank you for your kind consideration of this matter. David W. Rackham (Chair, on behalf of the Executive Board).

Bulletin Memorial/Tribute Donations: Our bulletin each week has a spot for Bethany family members and friends to honour a special occasion or celebrate the life of someone special.  Please contact the Office if you have questions about this opportunity or wish to make this expression of love.

“Birthday Ministry” is a celebration of life – a labor of love! As a part of the Coffee Hour time after church, on the first Sunday of the month we wish to let you know that we thank God for YOU! Our goal is to make people born in that month feel loved and remembered on “their” upcoming special day.  If you wish to become involved in this new ministry please contact the Office.

FALL FAIR 2018 Friendly Reminder! - We appreciate the eagerness within our community to support our annual Fall Fair to be held on Saturday, October 13th, 2018 with your gently used household goods that are looking for “new life with new owners”.  Bethany has limited space to store items, so donations for our flea market and other table areas will be gratefully accepted beginning on Wednesdays each week, starting June 6th until October 3rd from 11am - 3pm at the 2669 Joseph Howe Drive entrance. Drop off of items are being coordinated by Karen Hatcher and a team of dedicated volunteers.  If Wednesday drop off does not work for your schedule contact the Office and we will put you in touch with Karen to make special delivery time arrangements.

Help support Camp Kidston!!  While you are in the Fellowship Hall, enjoying your coffee and chat after the service, come chat with the friendly folks who are waiting to sign you up for your Lawton's card.  You need to provide your name, address, date of birth plus name and birth date for your dependents.  It's painless and profitable.  For any people who missed the presentation, $2.00 from every prescription filled (or refilled) at either Lawton's or Sobey's Pharmacy will be sent to Camp Kidston.  Lawton's/Sobey's does all the paperwork once you've signed up.

Visit this link to check out the camping dates for Summer 2018:

Camp Kidston provides a safe and happy summer camping experience to kids aged 6 to 17. Owned and operated by the United Church of Canada, we give campers the opportunity to disconnect from technology and instead connect to new friends, outdoor adventures and faith exploration.

Community Garden: The garden boxes built last Spring by our youth and friends, on the side lawn next to the sanctuary, are in need of some TLC. Bev Johnson has been busy weeding and would welcome anyone who wishes to assist with this project. Our expert gardener Linda Knechtel suggested we plant seeds for flowering annuals as a Bee and Butterfly Garden. We hope to plant edible greens as well. If you live in a condo or apartment this is your chance to have a garden! If you would like to be a part of this community garden during the spring and summer months please contact the Office.

The Bethany Summer Choir – For the months of late June, July and August Bethany will have a ‘Summer Choir.’ Everyone is invited to sing with this group. We meet on Sunday’s at 10:00 AM in the Ladies’ Parlour and learn 1-2 easy and accessible pieces of music and then present them at the 10:30 AM service. I hope to see some of you join us on occasion over the summer. If you have any questions please speak to Shawn Whynot, our Director of Music. The first Sunday of the Summer Choir is June 24th.
