The Bethany United Social Justice Learning and Action Working Group are seeking participants to walk in the Halifax Pride Parade, Saturday, July 18, 2026 beginning at 11am.
Please contact the church office via
email or voice mail to ask questions or to sign up. When you register to participate, a more detailed email will be circulated to you. This is one literal action step (many steps) we can take in allyship. We will walk together with Halifax Area United Churches who are Affirming Ministries. There will be representation from each of the following faith communities: St. John’s Halifax, Grace United, St. Andrew’s/Halifax United, St. Luke’s, Bedford United, Hillside United, St. John’s Fall River, Hope United, and us! We are in awesome company in our commitment in allyship.

JULY IS DISABILITY PRIDE MONTH

The Disability Awareness Month poster seen in the image was used to highlight the meaning behind the colours and who are represented in the flag.

In Canada, disability awareness is celebrated through several key observances throughout the year. October is widely recognized as Disability Employment Awareness Month, March focuses on Developmental Disabilities, and July marks Disability Pride Month.

These periods highlight inclusion, workplace accessibility, and the contributions of disabled individuals.

Some more disability awareness observances here in Canada:

November: Indigenous Disability Awareness Month recognizes the unique experiences and achievements of Indigenous people living with disabilities.

May/June: National AccessAbility Week is a Canadian observance celebrating the contributions of persons with disabilities and efforts to remove accessibility barriers.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FROM UNITED CHURCH OF CANADA

UNITED CHURCH OF CANADA - HISTORIC Worship Service

APOLOGY TO 2S AND LGBTQIA+ COMMUNITIES - August 8, 2025

On Sunday, December 8, 2024 our community of faith voted in favour of becoming public, intentional, and explicit about our commitment to embracing all people in the full participation of all of our ministry. We celebrated this achievement in a worship service on Sunday January 19, 2025, where we were presented a certificate of membership with the Affirm United/S’affirmerEnsemble.

Bethany United Church welcomes all people to participate in a diverse community of faith, to learn together, to recognize, experience, and share God’s transforming love. We strive to be a Christ centered community as we embrace people of all ages, colour, race, ethnicity, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, ability, and social and economic status in the full participation of all areas of our ministry.

Many thanks to the UCC Foundation for their support along our journey. The funds we received in a grant opened opportunities to learn and grow in understanding God’s wider love.

Our journey to an affirming ministry began with PIE and finished with Cake.
